At the sweet spot where relaxation meets luxury, the spa at the Rochari Hotel entices with rejuvenating treatments, making it a hidden gem in the heart of Mykonos Town.
I’ll be the first to admit that I can be a little nervous letting a stranger massage me. It’s just a me thing. But I love massages so much, I sometimes have to let that anxiety go. As soon as I met George, the massage therapist at the Rochari Spa, I found that my nerves never even made an appearance. Not only was he welcoming, but he had this way about him that made him feel like an old friend.
Of the three treatments I tried, I found that George seemed to know every knot in my muscles just by pure instinct. His technique was a perfect combo of firm yet soothing. Exactly what I needed!
Polynesian Exotic: 60-Minutes Holistic Massage
Mainly because I felt so comfortable with George, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try an authentic holistic massage called the Polynesian Exotic. This ritual Massage uses an authentic Monoi de Tahiti — the holy oil of Polynesia — and was beyond exhilarating.
The massage has a magical way of balancing the energy flow in your body to promote a sensation of total relaxation and overall wellness. George used this precious nectar (which smells fantastic by the way) from my head down to my feet, following the energy lines of my body. He described the energy as mana, and the nectar as an aid used to balance your spiritual center.
Using his forearms, George utilized a gentle pressure to absorb tension and stress, while also relaxing those extra tired areas. Add in the amazing fragrance, I felt like even with my eyes closed, I could actually see the colors of the energy. Talk about paradise.
After my first massage, I didn’t actually plan on going back. I was feeling pretty chill, but then I did what I do best — took a nice vacation nap. Except I took it in the sun. I’m lucky I woke up before getting a sunburn, but now that I had a nice crisp tan, I kind of wanted to keep my body feeling and looking nice. I ended up doing a body treatment at the hotel hammam, which is essentially a steam room.
I’ll be the first to admit that it was kind of weird to use a steam room in the middle of summer, (Lord knows I was already sweating enough) but I figured when on vacation, why not?
Ancient Greek Experience: 120-Minute Face & Body Ritual
The experience as a whole was so not what I was expecting. In America, all I’ve ever done in steam rooms is sit there and soak in my own sweat. In Mykonos, though, it was the ultimate Grecian experience. The idea is that the herbs and elements of the Greek land enhance your skin and keep it healthy and beautiful, without using any toxins.
You start in the hammam steam room for about fifteen minutes, with essential oils being rubbed into your body. Then your entire body and face are wrapped in zeolite and lava mud for a total body exfoliation. After your therapist rinses your body down, they finish the experience off by massaging an organic olive oil soap into your body. After one last final rinse, my body literally exuded hydration, and I somehow felt so rested even though I hadn’t even taken a nap.
Finally, on my last day, I decided to do one more procedure, this one focusing on my face. My body was feeling better than it ever had, and I knew I wanted that to overflow on my rosy cheeks, too.
Lava Mesotherapy: 60-Minute Facial Treatment
This facial was unlike anything I ever experienced in America. The treatment is inspired by Mesotherapy and uses a combo of Greek volcanic lava, hyaluronic acid, a highly concentrated vitamin cocktail, and Meso-like antioxidants that activate cellular repair mechanisms.
Let me just say… the afterglow was unreal. It felt like my bone structure had been sharpened! The improved tightness and moisture in my complexion was undeniable. The treatment restored vitality and brightness to my otherwise dull skin, while somehow providing active protection. Just a win-win all around.
I love how most of the products used at the spa are Greek, but it was cool to find out that they also feature Phytomer, which is a French skincare brand. It’s known for its signature ingredient, Oligomer. Oligomer is a seawater concentrate, the brand’s first ever ingredient, dating back to 1972. It’s packed with trace elements and minerals, each boosting and re-energizing your skin.
You can even purchase the products right at the spa if you want to bring a little of that luxury home. You better believe I did. I went on vacation to relax my mind, and walked away feeling better physically than I have in years. Thank you, Rochari.
