Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 .22 Caliber with Pellets and Scope

gamo whisper fusion mach 1 review

Highlight: Quietest noise reduction; recoil-resistant rail for the optic.

Helpful review: Gamo has created an air rifle that will remain at the top of the mountain for many years. The Fusion Mach One has incorporated every advancement and proprietary offering Gamo has for its line of air guns.
The Fusion Mach One comes with the Gamo scope as part of the kit. The 3x9 – 40mm scope will do everything this air rifle claims. There are better scopes on the aftermarket, and I plan to do that as soon as I finish this review, only to test the edges of what this rifle can make happen. The scope is made to work with a Gamo rifle. That makes sense, as Gamo also makes the scope. The scope does not have a BDC or illuminated reticle; anyone who thinks this will be the case is sniffing glue. The turrets are covered and adjusted the old-school way with a dime or a flat screwdriver.
Gamo has developed an advanced component of optics, the recoil-reducing scope mount. The way the Gamo cocks the pressure chamber is by a tremendous spring. When this spring releases, the recoil is pretty extreme, especially from an air gun. Think of it like this: when a bowstring is released, it delivers a ton of torque to the bow. The stuff will break if the bow does not flex and absorb the recoil. The same mentality is used for this scope mount, which works like a champ. I shot this about 300 times, both with and without pellets in the chamber, and the crosshairs did not move.
I tried to bore sight this air rifle with a laser fitted into the breech, and that did not work. So I did the best I could, held a laser on the muzzle, moved the crosshairs to the dot, and then spent about 15 minutes getting the pellets nearly hitting on top of each other. I set this up in the gun shop, which is about 20 feet long, then went to the field up the street to massacre some beer cans. Within another 3 to 5 minutes, I will get the hits at the end of the can on every trigger pull. I am good.
The barrel is a bull barrel style; the thickness of the barrel had a few friends mention how different it was to cock the chamber. It felt the same to me, but I have long arms and bear paw hands, so maybe it is just me. When the Fusion Mach One air rifle expels the pellet, it follows that with some compressed gas from the new IGT piston, which is made to perform.
The stock is well made and helps tame the recoil from this air gun. The way Gamo contours the stock makes it look like it should cost more than it does. I wish some stock manufacturers would make something like this to fit the 10/22; that would make some higher-priced custom guns come out of my shop.
The trigger is adjustable, making this rifle a treat to shoot. After I got this all dialed in to fit me, it felt like it lived with me my whole life. The rifle I got is of .22 caliber, so the total power is delivered to the target. I don’t have anything around here to hunt with an air rifle; like folks in the south hunt squirrels the size of jackrabbits, this air rifle will damn sure fill a burlap bag full.
The price for this air rifle is about the same as an excellent .22LR firearm, and if it was up to me to only buy one or the other, it would be the firearm; that is just the way I am. But since I can get both of them, I now have a new one of each. So all in all, for the money, this is a great air gun to have. It barely makes noise and it hits like a brick. — John Marshall
