Dream Dinner At Remezzo: The High Point Of My Mykonos Adventure

Nestled by the water in Mykonos Town, the legendary restobar Remezzo shines like a bright Mediterranean moon. It mixes vibrant Greek traditions with modern European flair.

Oh, Mykonos… where azure waters intersect ancient history, and romance lingers in the salty breeze. At least that’s what I got from watching 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' movies. And while my idealization of Greek culture didn’t unfold like the series, it ended up better than expected. On my last visit there, my fantasy came with some heart-shaped stars in my eyes, and a very full belly.

Romance Begins with Wonder… at Remezzo

After two days in Mykonos, what started as a solo adventure quickly took an unexpected turn when Nikos, a very handsome Greek man, crossed my path. Translation: I matched with him on Hinge. Nikos’ charm was as Mediterranean as the island’s, and so for our first date, he promised an evening of exquisite local dining and breathtaking views. He certainly delivered.

Honestly, when he invited me to dinner at Remezzo, I didn’t quite know what to expect. We were greeted warmly, then shown to a table with an unobstructed view of the sun setting over the Agean sea. I’ll spare you the ooey gooey details, but let’s just say this: Nikos was a gem on his own, and then some. Best of all, he knew all the tastiest treats to order for dinner.

Greece is My Oyster

Our appetizer of fresh oysters greeted us like a burst of the sea. Now, when I eat oysters I tend to judge them based on how they’re served, how they look, and most importantly, how they taste. The briny sweetness of these babies was complemented by a squeeze of lemon and a hint of mignonette sauce. The freshness was undeniable, and as I savored each bite, I felt a deeper connection to this beautiful island… and to this beautiful man.

Well, you know what they say about oysters, don't you? Tantalizing for the soul... An aphrodisiac... Honestly, I wasn’t sure if my drool was over the oysters or over Nikos.

Wine Improves With Age? I Improve With Wine!

As our conversation spiraled with the swirl of TRILOGIA (a Greek wine so exquisite, it could make a statue say ‘Κέφι’), I was ready for our next dishes, Greek Salad and Cheese Croquettes. Obviously when in Greece, you have to try the authentic stuff, right? The salad was a medley of rocket and valerian leaves with tarragon, hazelnuts, walnuts, grapes, avocado and goat cheese. The flavors were simple and familiar, and yet somehow profound. This salad is a testament to an authentic quality.

The cheese croquettes came with nuts and watermelon chutney. Now, as you probably guessed by now, I’m far from an adventurous eater. If I hadn’t been on a date with a gorgeous Greek man, I probably would’ve skipped that one. But I’m so, so, happy I didn’t. Not only did it taste incredible, but Nikos fed me half of the cheese ball, while he ate the other half. I never thought I’d love a man feeding me cheese, but my God, how could I resist? Meanwhile, the fried calamari with aioli sauce – made with their ink! – provided the perfect savory counterpoint.

My Seafood Diet: I See Food and Eat It

As my initial first date nerves settled, our pasta arrived in a big seashell. According to Nikos, it was a house specialty. And special it was: Spaghetti with Sea Bass Tartare and Bottarga from Mesolongi. So when I say I fell in love that night, I mean it. And not just with Nikos. Each bite was a delicate dance between the fresh sea bass, the briny bottarga, and the perfectly-cooked al dente pasta.

I was full by then, but Nikos ordered entrees, which we shared: Grilled Red Snapper with Eggplant Puree and Fish Filet with Caviar Sauce. These dishes were small but satisfying, a true reflection of Mediterranean cuisine. The snapper was flawless: sizzled with crispy skin that gives way to tender flesh. The filet’s caviar sauce coated a side of vegetables, a combination that enhanced the natural flavors of the fish.

Yogourta Be Kidding Me

As the evening drew to a close, Nikos ordered dessert. It was the most tempting tenderness imaginable in the form of Greek yogurt cream. Remezzo’s yogurt is completely homemade, which is why it’s the bee’s knees, in my opinion. I mean, what a dramatic flourish! Not only was it enveloped in a cloud of dry ice steam, the yogurt cream was silky and rich, and served with an array of exotic fruits.

Lingering over dessert, my hands tangled with Nikos', and I found myself enchanted, not just by the genuine connection brewing, but by that steamy dessert. It was the reflection of the moon and the stars, the salty breeze, the soothing melodies of laughter, of connection, of satiated guests falling in love over a meal straight from a dream. Hey, maybe from a book. It was my very own Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants story, unfolding before me.

I Followed My Heart and It Led Me to Remezzo

Dinner at Remezzo was more than just a dining experience. It was a celebration of the beauty of the moment. Sometimes, the best experiences come when you least expect them. Sometimes, a dinner can turn into an unforgettable adventure. So if you find yourself in Mykonos, I highly recommend an evening at Remezzo. Whether you’re there for the food, the views, or the romance, it’s an experience that captures the essence of this magical island. And who knows? You might just find yourself swept off your feet, just like I did.

At the end of the day, this place is truly the chef's kiss. And a kiss I did get indeed.
