Highlight: Perfect for my full-size 1911, Glock 22, and every other pistol I tried to fit.
Helpful review: The first thing I will say about this drop-down safe is that I really believe I got more value than I paid. I bought it for about $100. The metal this is made from is of suitable thickness and seems high quality. The combination pad and fingerprint reader are not cheap. I'm serious... they feel low-priced, but not cheap. I did not have a single malfunction.
The gun is presented by a drop-down section opening in less than a second. Once the lock opens, the drop falls, and the grip is right there, ready to go. The gun space is lined with thick foam that can be trimmed to fit accessories. If this is a plan, measure twice, think a bit more, measure again, and cut once. Like a subcompact pistol, a tiny gun will be slow to retrieve because it fits deep into the foam.
The mount for this safe is great, and it has a full-size mounting plate to boot. The mount will attach to your nightstand (or the wall or a desk) from the left side, right side, top, or all three if possible. Last week, I ordered another one of these to see if the mount would fit on the back of a door so that my hand would be only inches from the safe when it opened. The door that I wanted to use it on is not built to hold anything other than paint, unless it is screwed to the 2x2 frame. If I screwed this to the solid knotty alder, front door would result in my tiny redhead wife kicking my butt up and down the road in front of the neighbors, so I did not do that either.
What did I do then? I asked around and found a neighbor who did not have a safe near the bed to keep his pistols away from unwanted fingers. I gifted that second one to him to keep his house safe and ready to defend if needed. There is no better gift to a gun owner than a means to keep a gun handy and ready and also keep it safe. For the price of this safe, if you need to think about gifts for anyone in this community, this is a great buy and a good thing to have in the house. — Gary Anderson
